We automatically add utm parameters to help you easily track clicks from your bot to your store. We add these to any link that goes to your Shopify store including in-bot products, abandoned carts and a broadcast sent to your store.

We add the same source and medium for each link:

utm_source=octaneai
utm_medium=messenger

Then we have some differences in individual campaigns.

Abandoned cart messages
If a customer clicks the Buy button from an abandoned cart message, this is a tracked link. We will add:

utm_campaign=ACmessages

Depending on if if's the first or second message we will also add one of these:

utm_content=acfirst - for when link comes from the first reminder
utm_content=acsecond - for when link comes from the second reminder

In-bot products
If you add a product into a bot conversation we will add utm parameters to the buy link.

We will add this campaign:
utm_campaign=botproduct

A button linking out to your store

If you add a button that links out to your store we will add utm parameters to it automatically as long as it is not a short link (i.e. bit.ly or similar).

We will add this campaign:
utm_campaign=buttonlink

For in-bot products and buttons  we also add a content parameter for the specific place the content was created:

utm_content=convos - for when the traffic comes from a convo.
utm_content=smartresponses - from when the traffic comes from smart responses.
utm_content=broadcasts - for when traffic comes from broadcast messages.
utm_content=getstarted - for when traffic comes from the get started message.
utm_content=backinstock - for when traffic comes from the back in stock message.
utm_content=flow - for when traffic comes from a custom flow.
utm_content=questions - for when traffic comes from questions.

Can I track when people click on order confirmations and shipping notifications?
Unfortunately Shopify does a redirect to the order status page and it doesn't preserve the parameters on redirect.

When did these utm parameters go live?
They went live on February 8th, 2019 at around 1am ET so you would only be able to track these links for messages sent to customers after that time.

Can I customize these parameters?
We do not offer that right now although if it's something you would find useful you can definitely let us know (via the widget on the bottom right) and we will think about adding that to our roadmap.
