Rules can be used in many parts of your shop quiz. They're not only used to decide the flow of your quiz based on customer choices, but can be used to hide or display content depending on someone's decisions earlier in the quiz.
Rules can have different functions depending on where you add them in your quiz. By using them in content blocks and individual products, you can show or hide these elements depending on whether customers meet your rule conditions.

1. Customizing content on your results page
Content blocks don't just contain the products on your results pages. They also include additional content like text, images and links.
You can even add a content block with just this additional content, and no products. This gives you a lot of room to control the layout of your results pages.
Here are a couple of important tricks you can try with content and rules in content blocks.
Showing a discount based on whether customers opt-in
When you add a rule to content blocks, it'll display in the results page only if a customer meets the conditions in your rules.
Since you can add content blocks with just additional content like text, this means you can add a discount code to your results page that you only display if a customer gave you their Messenger, Email or SMS opt-in.
Within your editor, here's a quick breakdown of how you could arrange content to provide a conditional discount code.
Here's some quick steps on how you can set that up.
1. Make sure you have the opt-in page you'd like to use in your quiz.
You'll have to make sure you have at least one opt-in section in your quiz before we get started so that you won't be displaying your discount to all customers.

2. Create a content block in your results page just for your discount code text.
Since this content block will show or hide depending on a customer's answers, you may not want want your discount code text in the same block as actual products.
Once your new content block is made, select the option to add additional content.
3. Add the type of content you'd like to display your discount code with.
You could use text or an image to display your discount code. For this example, we'll go with text. Make sure you click "Add" once you've finished making the text.
4. Add rules to the content block that contains your discount text.
Rules can be added in the left-hand menu while still inside of your content block.
To create a rule that depends on a customer's opt-in, select your opt-in question and make the rule conditional on Answered. This will make it so this content block only displays if a customer answered the opt-in.
2. Customizing the product you show
When making product recommendations, you can think of each results page as a buyer persona. By tailoring results to different types of customers that use your store, you can make conversions and analytics more effective for your quiz.
Let's take a look at an example where we use rules to show a different variant within the same buyer persona.
1. First, add your products to the results page you want to customize recommendations for.
Once you add a content block to your results page, you can add individual products. If you're adding variants, click the "Variants" button when selecting a product from your Shopify catalogue.
This lets you add individual variants and set separate rules for each.
When it comes to formatting images, the ratios are listed below:
- Square: 1:1
- Portrait: 2:3
- Landscape: 3:2
Each product block has separate layout settings, so you can mix different types on the same results page by adding multiple product blocks.
2. Click on a product to customize rules for the specific variant.
Once you click on a product within your content block, you'll be able to set rules for that specific product.
3. Add rules for the answers you want a customer to select in order to reveal this product.
Once you create rules for a product, customers will only see the product if they meet the conditions set in your rules.
Once you've added an answer for each variant, your results page will look different to each customer depending on their choices in your quiz. Only add rules to products you want to be dependent on an answer! You may not want all products on your results pages to have rules.
If you have products you want to appeal to different buyer personas, it may also be better to create separate results pages in that case. That way, each results page will target the data it collects towards each buyer persona.
