⚠️ On September 27, 2022, Octane AI will end support for (i.e. deprecate) our Facebook Messenger and Facebook Ads features so we can focus on our zero-party data and artificial intelligence features.

Since originally implementing restrictions, Facebook has restored certain features for users in Europe and Japan, including:

  • One-time Notifications

  • Add to cart checkbox.

  • Privy & Justuno integration

  • Video & audio content.

These features are now available in the dashboard for all Octane AI users.

In 2021, Facebook made some features unavailable for Facebook pages based out of most European territories and Japan.

These features include:

  • Sponsored messages.

  • Order confirmation receipts

These features are not available for businesses and users located in Europe, as well as any accounts that have admins located in Europe. If your account isn't located in Europe, but you have an open conversation in Messenger with a user from Europe, these features will be unavailable in that specific conversation only.

Which specific regions does this affect?

Any country in the European Economic Area are impacted. This includes:

  • All 27 European Union member states

  • Norway

  • Iceland

  • Liechtenstein

  • United Kingdom

  • Japan

Does this affect the shop quiz?

Octane AI's shop quiz features will not be impacted.

If you had some of these features enabled prior to Facebook's updates, here's how they'll be affected.

Messenger Templates

Octane AI allows you to use message templates for many of your Messenger features.

These messaging templates will be unavailable for European Facebook users on desktop, but will appear normally on mobile devices. On the user-end, this means the message won't load when viewed in desktop Messenger for European users and pages.

European accounts can continue using message templates, but for full compatibility any impacted businesses may want to create a custom message instead.

Send to Messenger button

The "Send to Messenger" Facebook button will render as a m.me link for European users instead. The link will function the same as the button, so you won't have to make any changes in your account for this feature.

Media content

While images will still be available, video & audio media content will no longer be available for pages and users in Europe. If any are present in any Messenger flows for impacted users, they won't load in the conversation.

Any flows that include video & audio content should use images and GIFs instead.


Currently, the add to cart checkbox is unable to render in a Privy or Justuno pop-up for European users. This means they will not be visible, but will not affect your pop-up in any other way.

Facebook Messaging Ads

In order to comply with privacy requirements, Facebook has also made changes to the availability of features included in Facebook Messaging Ads. This includes:

  • Ability to optimize for Conversations in the Messages and Conversions objectives

  • Lead generation features for ads that click to Messenger

  • Sponsored messages

  • Messaging metrics for ads reporting & insight for messages

  • Engagement Custom Audiences based on people who have messaged a Page or Instagram business profile (and Lookalike Audiences based on these Engagement Custom Audiences)
