Octane AI's onsite pop-ups give you more ways to engage customers with discount offers, promotional updates and spotlights on important news and content. Using Octane AI pop-ups correctly can result in more revenue and more ways to create loyal, returning customers.

With an entire suite of customization options, you can choose the kind of content, opt-ins, discounts and even the specific pages and devices your pop-up will appear on.

This makes Octane AI's onsite pop-ups the perfect way to help customers find your shop quiz. We'll demonstrate in this article how you can use a custom pop-up to funnel customers to your store's quiz.

Before we start, make sure you've embedded your shop quiz on your website! If you're not sure how to do that, check out this guide on embedding your quiz.

1. Creating a pop-up

Octane AI's pop-ups can be created by going to the Pop-ups page in your dashboard. From here, you'll be able to access any existing pop-ups as well as create new ones.

When creating a pop-up, you'll be able to select whether you'd like to include a discount or not. Custom pop-ups can be made with and without a discount, but for this example we'll make one without.

For more information on how discounts work with onsite pop-ups, check out this article.

Once you create a pop-up, you'll be taken to Octane AI's pop-up editor.

2. Remove opt-ins

In order to create a pop-up with a custom link CTA, you'll have to remove all opt-ins from your pop-up first. This is super easy to do!

Just select any opt-in channels present in your pop-up, and select the option to remove it. When creating a new pop-up, you'll have a Messenger opt-in by default.

Once you've removed any opt-ins in your pop-up, you'll have access to your pop-up states settings.

3. Setting up your pop-up states

Your pop-up states options control two parts of your pop-up:

  • Submit button: enable or disable the CTA on your pop-up.

  • Submit button behavior: decide what happens when someone clicks your pop-up CTA.

The "submitted state" referenced in the pop-up editor is what's shown after someone has pressed your pop-up's button.

For this example, we'll want to make the button send someone to your shop quiz, so select the option Go to submitted state and open a link in a new tab.

Here, all you have to do is enter the URL for your shop quiz. Then, when someone clicks your pop-up's button, they'll be redirected to your quiz in a new tab.

If you'd like the current page to redirect to the quiz instead, simply enter the URL after selecting Open a link in the same tab (without submitted state). This will redirect the customer and the pop-up will close as well, which means the customer won't see your pop-up's submitted state.

4. Designing your pop-up

In order to edit your pop-ups design, you'll have to switch from the Settings tab to the Design tab. This will let you edit the initial and submitted states of the pop-up separately.

  • Initial state: the pop-up that customers see when it first appears.

  • Submitted state: the pop-up after a customer clicks your pop-up's CTA.

If you selected the option to redirect a customer in the same tab after they click the pop-up's CTA, then you won't need to edit the submitted state. However, we would recommend including the submitted state if you created a pop-up with a discount so that you can display your discount to anyone who interacts successfully with your pop-up.

In your design settings, you'll be able to edit:

  • Image: the images your pop-up displays.

  • Text: the different styles of text your pop-up can include.

  • Color: the color of the text, buttons and background of your pop-up.

These are the settings where you'll really be able to make your pop-up shine! It's definitely useful to spend some time here to get your content and design settings on-brand.

5. Setting up pop-up placement (optional)

If you really want to target where a customer sees your pop-up, you can specify how and when a pop-up appears through placement settings.

To access your placement options, just go back to your pop-ups general settings and select "Placement" underneath your pop-up states options.

From here, you'll be able to customize which devices as well as pages on your store that the pop-up can trigger on.

We recommend creating a separate pop-up for mobile and desktop devices to make sure you can get perfect formatting no matter where a user visits your store from.
