Custom properties are the data versions of your quiz's answers and properties. When someone takes a quiz, these properties are how that data is sent to other platforms.

πŸ’‘ What you'll learn

πŸ’‘ Prerequisites

In order to be able to see Custom Properties you will need to create a quiz first. Building each question and answer will populate Custom Properties as well.

What are custom properties?

Custom properties are fields used to store customer data like quiz answers, results & more.

When someone takes a quiz and submits an opt-in, these custom properties will be able to pass into integrations like Klaviyo and Zapier and can be used to send email & SMS flows, tag customers in other platforms & more.

πŸ“• Locating custom properties

Each quiz's custom properties can be viewed and changed in the quiz editor by going to Connect tab of each quiz.

A link to the custom properties page is also included under the CUSTOM PROPERTIES AND EVENTS tab, which can be found in the left menu in results pages and inside of each answer.

Editing custom properties

Custom properties are made up of a property name and value. Each of these are used to represent quiz answers and results in Octane AI's integrations.

The default property name can be used to change the name across all answers in a question, or all results in a quiz.

Individual property names can also be changed if needed.

πŸ“• Custom properties of questions

The property name displays the question and the value is the answer that was chosen.

These properties can be targeted by Klaviyo segments, which can then be used to create flows based on certain answers.

Free form text questions can also pass properties into Klaviyo for Octane AI Plus users, which can be used to collect non-multiple choice answers.

πŸ“• Custom properties of results pages

In a results page, the property name is used to indicate a quiz result property, and the name is used to name the actual result page.

Before changing the default property name, make sure the new name will be easily identifiable as a result property.

Custom properties in Klaviyo

When an email is collected in Octane AI while your Klaviyo integration is active, a profile will be created in Klaviyo with that email and any custom properties that were collected up to the time of the opt-in.

When creating a segment, you can use the Properties about someone definition to target custom properties, creating filters like the one below, which sorts everyone who finished a certain quiz.

By targeting different properties with a flow, users on all Octane AI plans can send personalized emails through Klaviyo.

Custom properties in Zapier

Custom properties can be added into any Zap as data. This lets you send crucial information like someone's responses to your quizzes and pop-ups, their opt-in source or any lists a customer is part of to thousands of other apps.

However, custom properties when added to a Zap in Zapier will only send the value and not the name of the custom property.

In order to make sure the name of a property is sent with the value in a Zap, you'll need to manually add the name to the custom property when setting up the Zap.

This results in a complete custom property in your target apps.

Custom properties in Alloy

Alloy uses the same custom properties as Klaviyo to send information to other platforms through recipes. You can add pre-set recipes or create your own that sends all custom properties about someone to another platform, or select specific ones only.

The input form used to select custom properties to sync is dependent on the platform you're syncing into, as well as the form custom properties take in the target platform.

For example, when you send custom properties into Omnisend or Mailchimp, custom properties will be included in an email profile as tags.

πŸ’‘ Customer created vs. Customer updated

For Alloy & Zapier, use the customer updated trigger to pass all custom properties through the flow.

Using the customer created trigger will only pass the opt-in.

Types of custom properties

In addition to properties for quiz answers & results, Octane AI can send other types of custom properties to integrations as well.

πŸ“• Quizzes answers & results

  • Octane: [Quiz Question] Quiz Answer

  • Octane: Quiz result [Results page]

Quiz custom properties will copy the question, answer or results page internal name that you use while creating your quiz.

Customizing the name of your results pages' properties can be a great way to display multiple results pages in a single profile, whether they're from the same quiz or multiple quizzes.

πŸ“• Octane AI Lists

  • Octane list: [List name] member / not a member

Lists in Octane AI can be created in the Customers page. Every Octane AI account includes a list for each of their Messenger, SMS and email subscriber lists by default.
