Octane AI sends quiz data to Klaviyo as custom properties and through the quiz completed event. You can use this data to create segments, trigger flows, and personalize the customer journey based on quiz responses and recommendations.
Before you start, make sure your quiz data has synced to Klaviyo at least once. A custom property must reach Klaviyo before you can select it in segments, filters, or triggers.
Choose the right flow trigger
There are several ways to trigger a Klaviyo flow with Octane AI quiz data.
Quiz completed event
Customers can enter the flow every time they complete the quiz. This is the best option for quiz results emails and most post-quiz flows.
List
Customers enter the flow when they're added to the selected Klaviyo list and can only enter once. This works well for welcome flows.
Segment
Customers enter when they qualify for a segment and can only enter once. Use this when you want to target customers with a specific quiz answer or result.
Date property
Customers enter based on a date collected through your quiz. This is useful for birthdays, anniversaries, due dates, weddings, and other date-based flows.
Create a segment with quiz data
Before creating a segment, check a test profile to make sure the quiz data is available.
In Klaviyo, search for an email address you used for a test quiz opt-in.
Open the profile and scroll to the Information section.
Find the custom properties associated with your quiz and confirm they contain the expected answers and results.
If the properties don't match your quiz, open the quiz editor and check Custom properties in the Integrations tab.
Create a segment of quiz takers
In Klaviyo, go to Audience → Lists & segments.
Click Create List / Segment, then select Segment.
Name your segment.
Under Definition, select Properties about someone.
Select the custom property for your quiz.
Set the condition to is set.
Save the segment.
The segment will automatically update as new customers complete the quiz. To create a segment based on a specific answer or result, select the corresponding custom property and set the condition to the value you want to target.
Trigger a flow from a list
Opt-ins are sent to the Klaviyo list selected in your integration settings. You can add a flow filter to make sure only quiz takers enter the flow.
In Klaviyo, go to Flows → Create flow → Create from scratch.
Select List as the trigger and choose the list receiving your Octane AI opt-ins.
Add a Flow filter.
Choose Properties about someone and select your quiz custom property.
Set the condition to is set, or select a specific answer or result.
Save the flow.
Note: A profile can only enter a list-triggered flow once. If you want customers to enter a flow again when they retake your quiz, use the quiz completed event instead.
Trigger a flow from a segment
Create the segment you want to use.
Go to Flows → Create flow → Create from scratch.
Select Segment as the trigger.
Choose your quiz segment and save.
Use recommended products in segments and flows
The recommended_products custom property stores the products recommended to each quiz taker. You can use this property to create product-specific segments, conditional splits, and flow filters.
Segment by recommended product
Go to Lists & segments → Create List / Segment → Segment.
Under Definition, select Properties about someone.
Select
recommended_products.Set the condition to contains and enter the product name you want to target.
Create the segment.
Split a flow by recommended product
Add a Conditional split after your flow trigger.
Choose Properties about someone → recommended_products.
Set the condition, for example, contains "Product A".
Create different paths for customers based on their recommended products.
Filter a flow by recommended product
Open the flow trigger and select Add filter.
Choose Properties about someone → recommended_products.
Set the condition for the product you want to target.
Note: In metric-triggered flows, profile properties can't be used as trigger filters. Use the event property recommended_product_titles instead.
Create flows with dates collected in your quiz
You can use a Date picker question to collect dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, due dates, or weddings and use them to trigger Klaviyo flows.
In the quiz editor, go to Integrations and check the custom property for your date question.
Complete a test quiz to sync the property to Klaviyo.
In Klaviyo, go to Flows → Create flow → Create from scratch.
Select Date property as the trigger.
Choose the custom property for your date question.
Choose when the flow should start, such as on the date or a set amount of time before it.
Choose how often the flow should repeat.
For example, you can use Yearly for birthdays and anniversaries, but Do not repeat for weddings and due dates
Note: Dates need to be collected using a Date picker question. Other question types, such as free text, won't be recognized as dates in Klaviyo. The collected date is sent as a custom date property rather than Klaviyo's built-in birthday field.
How long does it take for quiz data to appear?
After a customer opts in, their Klaviyo profile usually appears first, followed by custom properties, list membership, segments, and flows. Allow a few minutes for all quiz data and automation conditions to update before troubleshooting.
Why is Accepts Marketing set to false?
Accepts Marketing is a Shopify property. It only becomes true when a customer checks the marketing option at checkout. It doesn't affect the consent collected through your Octane AI quiz or prevent you from sending marketing flows to customers who have opted in through the quiz.
