Octane AI lets you create discounts directly from the quiz editor and sync them to Shopify. You can generate a unique discount code for each shopper, apply an automatic discount at checkout, and control where and when discounts appear in your quiz.
Create a discount
Open your quiz and go to Settings → Discounts.
Click + Add discount.
Choose your discount method:
Discount code — Generates a unique code for each shopper.
Automatic discount — Applies automatically at Shopify checkout when its conditions are met.
Give your discount a name.
If you're using a discount code, you can also add a Discount code prefix. For example, using WELCOME generates unique codes beginning with WELCOME-.
Using automatic discounts
Automatic discounts don't generate a code, so customers don't need to copy or enter anything at checkout.
Important: Automatic discounts apply store-wide whenever their conditions are met, even if the customer hasn't completed your quiz. If you want a discount to be exclusive to quiz takers, use the Discount code method instead.
Configure your discount
Choose how your discount should work.

You can offer:

Limit the total number of times the discount can be used
Limit the discount to one use per customer

On a specific date
You can also choose when it expires:
Never
After a certain number of hours or days
On a specific date
Note: Expiration after a certain number of hours or days and maximum usage limits are available for discount codes, not automatic discounts.
Sync your discount to Shopify
Once you've configured your discount, click Save & Sync to Shopify.
The discount needs to be synced before it can work at checkout. Until then, you'll see a Not synced status in the Discounts settings.
If you make changes to a discount later, sync it again to update it in Shopify.
Remember to publish your quiz to make your quiz changes live.
Show a discount code in your quiz
There are two ways to display a generated discount code.
Option 1: Use the Coupon Code element
The Coupon Code element displays the customer's discount code with a copy button.
In the Components panel, find Coupon Code under Selling.
Drag it onto your results page or another quiz page.
Select the element and choose the discount you want it to display.
If you have multiple discounts, each Coupon Code element can display a different one.
You can also use the Coupon Code element to display a fixed code, such as WELCOME20, instead of a dynamically generated code.
Option 2: Use the discount code variable
To include the code directly in your quiz copy, use:
{{_discount_code}}
For example:
Thanks for taking the quiz! Use code {{_discount_code}} for 15% off your first order.
You can use the variable in text, element labels, or an HTML block.
In the editor, you'll see a placeholder. In the live quiz, it will be replaced with the shopper's unique discount code.
Important: {{_discount_code}} always uses your default discount. If you need to display a different discount, use a Coupon Code element and select the discount you want.
Use multiple discounts
You can create multiple discounts in the same quiz.
The first enabled discount in your Discounts list becomes the default discount. It's used by:
The
{{_discount_code}}variableCoupon Code elements that don't have a specific discount selected
To use a different discount, select it directly in the Coupon Code element settings.
Show a discount only to certain shoppers
You can use Visibility rules to control who sees a discount.
For example, you can show a discount only after a customer provides their email address.
Select the Coupon Code element or the element containing your discount code.
Open Visibility in the settings sidebar.
Click Edit logic.
Add the condition that determines when the element should appear.
Without a visibility condition, the element is shown to everyone.
View your discounts in Shopify
Discounts created in Octane AI are also available in Shopify Admin → Discounts.
You can use Shopify to view the discount, check usage, and see generated codes.
Use discount codes with integrations
Generated discount codes are also included in integration data, such as the quiz completed event sent to Klaviyo, Attentive, Postscript, Shopify, and other integrations. This lets you include a customer's quiz discount code in follow-up emails and flows.
