Use branching logic and visibility rules in your quiz

Create personalized quiz paths by controlling which pages and elements shoppers see based on their answers.

Written by Ivana

Branching logic lets you customize each shopper's quiz experience. Use Jump Rules to send shoppers to different pages and Visibility Rules to control which pages or elements appear.

Add jump rules

Jump Rules determine which page a shopper visits next based on their answers.

  1. Open your quiz in the editor.

  2. Select the page where you want the branching to happen.

  3. Open Jump Rules in the page settings.

  4. Click + Add jump rule.

  5. Click Edit logic to define the condition, then click Apply.

  6. Under Jump to, select the destination page.

Here are things to keep in mind:

  • Jump rules are evaluated when the shopper submits the page.

  • Rules are checked from top to bottom. The first matching rule determines the next page.

  • If no rule matches, the shopper continues to the next page in order.

  • A rule without a condition always matches. Place it last if you want to use it as a default.

Control page visibility

Page Visibility determines whether a shopper sees a particular page.

  1. Select the page you want to control.

  2. Open the page settings and select Visibility.

  3. Click Edit logic.

  4. Define the condition and click Apply.

Pages are always visible unless a visibility condition is added. If the condition isn't met, the page is skipped, and the shopper continues to the next visible page.

If there are no visible pages remaining, the quiz ends.

Control element visibility

Element visibility lets you show or hide individual elements, such as headings, text, or Smart Copy, based on a shopper's answers.

  1. Select the element on the canvas.

  2. Open Visibility in the element settings.

  3. Click Edit logic.

  4. Add the condition that determines when the element should appear.

By default, elements are always shown unless a visibility condition is configured.

Build logic conditions

Jump Rules, Page Visibility, and Element Visibility all use the same logic editor.

Each condition includes:

  • Trigger: The quiz answer or device type you want to evaluate.

  • Operator: How the selected value should be compared.

  • Value: The answer or value the condition should match.

The visual logic editor supports operators such as Equals, Does not equal, Is one of, Is not one of, Contains, Does not contain, Is empty, Is not empty, and Is answered.

Combine multiple conditions

For more advanced logic:

  1. Click + Condition to add another condition.

  2. Choose ALL must match (AND) when every condition needs to be true.

  3. Choose ANY must match (OR) when at least one condition needs to be true.

  4. Use nested groups for more complex combinations.

  5. Use NOT to reverse a condition or group.

Click Clear (always) to remove all conditions.

Use advanced logic with JSON

Switch to the JSON tab to create more advanced conditions using operators such as greater than, less than, between, starts with, ends with, regex, points, and highest or lowest values.

Tip: Logic conditions compare against an answer option's stored value, which may differ from the label displayed to shoppers.

Test your quiz logic

After setting up your logic, use Flow View to visualize quiz paths and identify potential issues, such as unreachable pages, loops, or dead ends. You can also use the Issues tab to automatically check your quiz for problems.

For detailed instructions, see Use Flow View to visualize and test your quiz.

Tip: Always test your different quiz paths in Preview before publishing.
