Exit intent pop-ups appear when someone is about to leave your website. They can be great for reducing customer churn and convincing customers to make a purchase by offering a discount.

๐Ÿ’ก What you'll learn

How exit intent pop-ups work, and situations you might want to use one.

๐Ÿ’ก Prerequisites

Pop-ups that offer discounts must use discount codes present in your store.

When to use an exit intent pop-up

Exit intent pop-ups are great for:

  • Offering discounts to customers leaving your website

  • Targeting customers that haven't made a purchase during their visit

Exit intent pop-ups don't appear until someone is about to leave eligible pages, so it can play nicer with non-Octane AI pop-ups as well (whereas welcome pop-ups might layer on top of other pop-ups).

How exit intent pop-ups work

On desktop, exit intent pop-ups will trigger when the visitor's mouse moves off the webpage. This can be to click the back button, moving to the hyperlink bar or just moving their mouse off the page.

On mobile, the pop-up will trigger when the back button is pressed.
