Dynamic segments in Attentive allow you to target data passed from Octane AI to segment your customers.

๐Ÿ’ก What you'll learn

  • Creating a dynamic Attentive segment (jump to section)

  • Targeting customer data in Attentive segments (jump to section)

๐Ÿ’ก Prerequisites

You must have Octane AI's Attentive integration connected, as well as an active account in both platforms.

You'll also need a quiz with an SMS opt-in with at least one test submission so that the data is present in Attentive.

Creating a dynamic Attentive segment

  1. On the Segments page, click + Create segment.

  2. Click Create next to Dynamic segment.

  3. On the Create a segment screen, use the first drop-down list to indicate how to filter your subscriber list.

    • Use subscriber's activity to filter the segment by people who finished a quiz X amount of times.

    • Use subscriber's characteristics to filter the segment by quiz or Octane properties.

  4. Choose a condition from the menus and build more precise segments by using And/Or connectors.

    • As you build a segment using the conditions options, the number of included subscribers is calculated and displayed on the right.

  5. Click Create.

  6. Enter a unique Name and Description to save your segment.

Octane data has to sync at least once before it's targetable in Attentive

If you don't see any Octane data in Attentive yet, try making a test opt-in with a valid phone number into an Octane AI quiz.

This will push a profile with quiz data into Attentive, letting you target quiz attributes.

Targeting customer data in Attentive segments

Octane data in Attentive lives in two categories:

  • A subscriber's activity: contains the "Quiz completed" event

  • A subscriber's characteristics: contains Octane properties

The main difference is you can target subscriber's activity to filter based on when, or how many times someone finished a quiz.

Subscriber's characteristics on the other hand represent the customer's actual attributes, like their quiz answers, results and any lists they belong to in Octane AI. The table below shows what kind of attributes a profile can have.

Attentive attribute

What does it represent?

Octane list

Indicates any Octane AI lists the customer can be found in.

Octane source

The Octane AI source of the opt-in.

Octane: Quiz question

The name / answer of quiz question properties.

Octane: Quiz result

The name of quiz result properties.

This data can be used to target customers with certain preferences or even just get a high level view of the kinds of customers that are interacting with your quiz.

Octane data can be combined and manipulated in the same way as non-Octane data can be with Attentive's segments. Attentive's guide on segmenting has great in-depth details.
