Connect Klaviyo to Octane AI

Connect your Klaviyo account to Octane AI and send quiz opt-ins and customer quiz data to Klaviyo.

Written by Ivana

The Klaviyo integration automatically sends email and SMS opt-ins, along with customer quiz data, to Klaviyo. Once connected, you can use quiz answers, results, recommended products, and results page URLs to build segments, trigger flows, and personalize messages. The data that can be passed on, besides opt-ins, includes answers, recommended products, Smart Copy, Smart Properties, results page URL, and the discount code.

Connect Klaviyo

Before you start, make sure you have permission in Klaviyo to connect new integrations.

  1. In Octane AI Phoenix, go to the Integrations page in the left menu.

  2. Next to Klaviyo, click the "Add" button (or "Actions" if you're already connected).

  3. On the pop-up window, click on "Connect Klaviyo".

  4. Select a Klaviyo list for all Octane AI contacts to sync to. If you don't select a list, opt-ins and quiz data are still sent to Klaviyo, but profiles won't automatically be added to a list.

  5. Complete authentication for your Klaviyo account in the pop-up window that appears.

Choose where opt-ins go

In Octane AI, opt-ins are stored on the People page. In Klaviyo, opt-ins are sent to the list selected in your Klaviyo integration settings.

Use separate lists for different quizzes or opt-in types

You can send email and SMS opt-ins, or opt-ins from different quizzes, to different Klaviyo lists. This is useful when, for example, your email list uses single opt-in while your SMS list uses double opt-in.

  1. Go to the Integrations tab of your quiz

  2. Under Klaviyo, select the lists you want to use for that specific quiz

Note: Lists selected for an individual quiz take priority over the default list selected on the main Integrations page.

Tip: Make sure the opt-in language in your quiz provides clear, compliant consent.

Use SMS with Klaviyo

SMS opt-ins sync to Klaviyo in the same way as email opt-ins.

  • SMS must be enabled in your Klaviyo account.

  • The Klaviyo list receiving SMS opt-ins must have double opt-in enabled.

Once SMS opt-ins are syncing, you can use quiz data to segment subscribers, trigger flows, and personalize SMS messages.

Sync first and last names

You can collect first and last names with Collect text questions and map them to Klaviyo's profile fields.

  1. Add a first and/or last name question to your quiz separately

  2. In the quiz editor, go to Integrations and find the custom properties for these questions.

  3. Rename the properties to exactly first_name and last_name.

The answers will now populate the first and last name fields on the customer's Klaviyo profile.

Note: First and last names need to be collected as separate open text questions. They can't be collected on an opt-in page.

Verify your quiz data in Klaviyo

Profiles usually appear quickly in Klaviyo, while quiz data can take a few minutes to populate.

Check your custom properties

Open your quiz and go to the Integrations tab. Review the custom property for each answer, result, list, and results page URL.

Register the data in Klaviyo

Custom properties and quiz.completed event need to be synced to Klaviyo at least once before you can select it in segments, flows, or templates.

You can register your properties in two ways:

  • Complete a test quiz: Publish the quiz, complete it, and submit an opt-in. The answers and results from that submission will be registered in Klaviyo.

  • Add the property manually: Add the custom property to a Klaviyo profile once. It will then become available across Klaviyo.
