Use quiz data in Postscript automations

Use Postscript automations to send personalized SMS messages after a shopper completes your quiz.

Written by Ivana

Once Postscript is connected to Octane AI, complete a test quiz with an SMS opt-in to sync your quiz data. This makes the quiz completed event and custom properties available in Postscript when you build your automation. If you haven’t connected the integration yet, see Connect Postscript to Octane AI.

Create a quiz completed automation

  1. In Postscript, go to Messaging → Automations.

  2. Click Create Automation → Create Automation Flow.

  3. Choose Create a new automation, then click Create flow.

  4. Open Automation properties.

  5. Under Trigger event or property, select the Octane AI quiz completed event for your quiz.

  6. Configure any filters and subscriber frequency settings you need.

  7. Click Save.

Note: A keyword identifies the opt-in source. The quiz completed event triggers this post-quiz automation. Select the event for the quiz whose results you want to send.

Frequency settings determine how often a subscriber can enter the flow, so review them if you want shoppers to receive a message after taking the quiz again.

Add quiz data to your message

Quiz answers, results page links, and opt-in information are available as subscriber custom properties.

  1. Add a Send Message action to your automation.

  2. Write your message.

  3. Click the Merge Tags icon.

  4. Under Subscriber Properties, find the Octane AI property you want to use.

  5. Select the property to insert its merge tag.

  6. Save the message.

You can use merge tags to include:

  • An answer the shopper selected.

  • A link to their quiz results.

  • Other quiz properties available on their subscriber profile.

Include a quiz results link

Add a short introduction, then insert the results URL property through the Merge Tags menu. Insert the results URL merge tag after the message. Postscript will replace it with the value stored on the subscriber’s profile.

Tip: Select the merge tag in Postscript rather than typing a placeholder manually.

Check your custom property names

If you’re unsure which property to use:

  1. In the Octane AI editor, go to Integrations.

  2. Review Custom Properties.

  3. Compare the names with the properties on your test subscriber’s profile in Postscript.

If a property isn’t available yet, complete another test quiz with an SMS opt-in and check that the expected data has synced.

Test and activate your automation

Before activating the flow:

  • Confirm that the trigger uses the correct quiz completed event.

  • Check that merge tags display the expected answers.

  • Open the results link to confirm it works.

  • Review filters and subscriber frequency settings.

  • Check whether an existing welcome flow or keyword reply will also send a message.

When everything looks good, click Schedule or Activate to start the automation immediately or at a scheduled time.
