You can take advantage of the thousands of apps present on Zapier through Octane AI's integration. With easy-to-use triggers, you can transfer the opt-ins and zero-party data you gather in Octane AI to other key platforms that you use.

This guide will show you how to connect Octane AI with Zapier as well as the triggers you can use once the integration is set up.

πŸ’‘ What you'll learn

How Octane AI's Zapier integration works and important tips to keep in mind.

Connecting Octane AI with Zapier

In order to connect your Octane AI account with Zapier, you'll need the following:

  • An Octane AI account

  • Your Octane AI API Key

  • Your Octane AI bot ID

The last two items are credentials unique to your account, which can be located in your Octane AI dashboard. To get your account connected, follow the steps below.

Locating your Octane AI credentials

  1. In Octane AI, go to the Integrations page and locate Zapier. Then, click on the Actions menu and select Setup.

  2. Copy down the API Key as well as your bot ID.

Connecting Octane AI with Zapier

  1. In Zapier, go to the My Apps page through the left-hand menu.

  2. Click on Add connection.

  3. Search for Octane AI and select it.

  4. In the next screen, enter the API Key and bot ID we acquired from the Octane AI dashboard.

  5. If your credentials were entered successfully, you'll receive a message letting you know that a new connection has been added.

You're finished! From here, you'll be able to select your Octane AI account whenever you create a Zap between Octane AI and any other app.

You can also go through the same process of adding the Octane AI connection when creating a Zap with Octane AI if you don't add the connection prior to doing so.

Zapier Triggers

You have two triggers you can use when creating Zaps with Octane AI:

  • Customer Created

  • Customer Updated

When you make a Zap with the Customer Created trigger, the Zap will only fire when a new customer is added inside of Octane AI. This includes an email, SMS or Facebook Messenger opt-in.

Customer Updated triggers will only fire when an existing customer is updated - for example, when a customer retakes a product recommendation quiz.

We recommend creating a Zap for each trigger when you want to pass Octane AI data into another platform. That makes sure you'll sync data for both new and existing customers in Octane AI.

Custom Properties

Custom properties are Octane AI variables that can be used to describe key attributes about your customers. This can include key information like their responses to in a Conversational Pop-up, or their opt-in source.

By sending custom properties into other platforms, you can seamlessly share your zero-party data to other marketing channels to build a more personalized experience.

Adding custom properties to a Zap

You can add custom properties during the Action step of a Zap, whether you're using the Customer Created or Customer Updated trigger.

When a custom property is added as data into a field, only the value of the custom property will send in the field you add it into.

For example, if you add a custom property that includes a quiz question and its answer, only the answer will send through the field you've added the custom property into.

While some apps give you a field to enter the custom property name, others may require you to manually add that information in order to keep your properties organized. Follow the examples below on how to format your custom properties in a Zap.

Manually completing custom properties

When custom properties are added in a data field like tags for apps like Mailchimp and Omnisend, only the value of the custom property will send (for example, only the response to a question and not the question itself).

You can easily set up a custom property to also send the question by typing in the name of the property along with the property data value.

In the example above, this makes sure the tags in the target app includes full context for the custom property.

For apps that support custom properties within Zapier, you'll find a custom property name field already included.
